How to appoint your Peppol ASP in the UAE: a step-by-step guide
From 2027 onwards, every business in the UAE must send and receive B2B and B2G invoices as structured e-invoices through an Accredited Service Provider (ASP). The first step is to appoint your ASP in the EmaraTax portal. In this article we explain what an ASP is, who has to appoint one and by when, and how to do it step by step. We also explain how onFact, together with our Peppol partner Storecove, gets you ready.
What is an Accredited Service Provider (ASP)?
The UAE e-invoicing system is based on Peppol and the PINT AE invoice format. Businesses cannot send e-invoices directly to each other or to the Federal Tax Authority (FTA). Instead, every business connects to the network through an Accredited Service Provider: a company approved by the UAE Ministry of Finance that acts as a Peppol Access Point.
Your ASP:
- validates every invoice and credit note against the PINT AE rules before it is sent;
- sends your e-invoices over the Peppol network to your customer's ASP;
- receives e-invoices from your suppliers and delivers them to your software;
- reports the tax data of every invoice to the FTA in near real time.
This is called the five-corner model: seller, seller's ASP, buyer's ASP, buyer and the FTA. You appoint one ASP for both your outgoing and incoming invoices.
Who must appoint an ASP, and by when?
The obligation applies to businesses carrying out business in the UAE, whether or not they are registered for VAT. The deadlines depend on your annual revenue:
| Who | Appoint an ASP by | Mandatory e-invoicing from |
|---|---|---|
| Businesses with annual revenue of AED 50 million or more | 30 October 2026 | 1 January 2027 |
| Businesses with annual revenue below AED 50 million | 31 March 2027 | 1 July 2027 |
| Government entities | 31 March 2027 | 1 October 2027 |
The deadline for large businesses was originally 31 July 2026 and has been extended to 30 October 2026; the go-live date of 1 January 2027 remains unchanged. Businesses can also join voluntarily before their deadline.
Don't wait until the last moment. Not appointing an ASP or not implementing the e-invoicing system on time can lead to a penalty of AED 5,000 per month (or part of a month) of delay. And once you are live, every invoice or credit note that is not issued and transmitted electronically on time can cost AED 100, up to AED 5,000 per month.
Before you start: what you need
- Access to EmaraTax (eservices.tax.gov.ae), via UAE PASS or your registered login.
- Your TRN or TIN. Your Tax Identification Number (TIN) is the first 10 digits of your Tax Registration Number. Businesses that are not registered for VAT must first obtain a TIN from the FTA.
- Correct company data. Your legal name (in English and Arabic) and address must match your FTA records exactly. Differences are the most common reason why a link fails.
- Your chosen ASP. Decide which provider you will work with before you log in.
How to appoint your ASP in EmaraTax: step by step
- Log in to EmaraTax. Go to eservices.tax.gov.ae and log in with UAE PASS or your e-mail address and password.
- Open the e-invoicing section. On your dashboard, open the e-invoicing section (depending on your account, it can be under "Other Services" or have its own tile).
- Register for the e-invoicing system. Check and confirm your legal name, TRN/TIN and registered address.
- Appoint your service provider. Select your ASP from the list of accredited service providers and confirm the appointment.
- Share the connection details with your ASP. EmaraTax provides the details that allow your ASP to link your account. Your ASP uses them to activate your Peppol participant ID.
- Check the status. The appointment is complete when the status in EmaraTax shows as active. If it stays pending or fails, check that your company details match your FTA records exactly.
Menu names in EmaraTax can change over time. If you don't find an option, check the FTA's latest user guide or contact your ASP.
Your Peppol ID in the UAE
Once your ASP has activated your account, you can be reached on the Peppol network under your Peppol ID: the scheme 0235 followed by your 10-digit TIN, for example 0235:1234567890. Share this ID with your customers and suppliers so they can send you e-invoices, and ask them for theirs.
How to choose the right ASP
Your ASP will handle every invoice you send and receive, so choose carefully:
- Accreditation: make sure the provider is on the Ministry of Finance's official list of accredited service providers.
- Peppol experience: a provider with a proven track record on the Peppol network in other countries reduces the risk of start-up problems.
- Integration with your invoicing software: the best set-up is one where you simply keep creating invoices as usual, and your software takes care of the PINT AE conversion and transmission.
- Incoming invoices: check that supplier invoices arrive automatically in your software, not only in a separate portal.
- Support and pricing: look at service levels, support in your language and a pricing model that fits your invoice volume.
onFact and Storecove: your route to UAE e-invoicing

Frequently asked questions
Can I appoint more than one ASP?
No. You appoint one ASP that handles both your outgoing and incoming e-invoices.
Can I change my ASP later?
Yes, you can switch to another accredited provider. Plan the change carefully so that no invoices are lost during the transition, and check the current procedure in EmaraTax.
I am not registered for VAT. Do I still need an ASP?
Yes. The mandate applies to businesses carrying out business in the UAE, regardless of VAT registration, unless an exclusion applies. You must first obtain a TIN from the FTA.
Is a PDF invoice still allowed?
Once e-invoicing is mandatory for you, a PDF is no longer a valid invoice for in-scope B2B and B2G transactions. You can still send a PDF as a visual copy, but the legally valid invoice is the PINT AE e-invoice sent through your ASP.
